Adam Guzik is an experienced litigator who handles complex tort and general liability claims in New York state and federal courts. He has more than 10 years of experience representing multinational corporations, private-sector public transport companies, foster care agencies, nonprofit organizations, condominium associations, school districts and religious organizations against a variety of personal injury, Labor Law, motor vehicle, premises liability and subrogation claims.

Areas of Focus

General Liability Insurance
Adam works closely with his clients to find cost-effective solutions to and lasting protection from litigation through early assessment and negotiations, development of best practices, and targeted discovery and motion practice. In the area of general liability, he has successfully handled every aspect of cases from inception to appeals.

Construction
Adam has defended large-scale building owners and contractors, from commercial real estate to residential buildings, against claims pursuant to the Labor Law statutes 200, 240(1) and 241(6), as well as property damage and personal injury cases resulting from water infiltration and mold growth.

Transportation
Adam has represented municipal and private transportation organizations in matters involving complex litigation claims from initial investigations through trial, with an emphasis on proactive defense to mitigate high-exposure injuries.

Nonprofit & Agency Defense
Adam has extensive experience representing nonprofit organizations, religious organizations, mental hygiene agencies, public/private partnerships and municipal organizations, and is familiar with the wide range of claims brought against these entities, including §1983 civil rights claims. He sits on the board of directors for a 501(c)3 organization, and has a first-hand understanding of the type of guidance sought by these organizations.

Sexual Abuse Litigation
The New York State Child Victims Act of 2019 wrought immediate changes to the landscape of sexual abuse claims. Adam’s experience defending non-CVA child sex abuse and molestation claims, as well as a wide range of general and municipal liability claims that are frequently associated with such claims, provides a strong and flexible foundation from which to defend against the procedural and substantive impacts of the newly developing legal landscape resulting from the CVA.

Similarly, Adam has experience defending hospitality companies against human trafficking claims pursuant to the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, including coordinating responses to claims between hotel franchisees and franchisors.

Guzik and Levasseur Secure Summary Judgment for Largest Private-Sector Transit Operator in North America

New York City partners Adam Guzik and Guy Levasseur obtained summary judgment for the firm’s client, the largest private-sector transit operator in North America, in New York Supreme Court, Nassau County. The matter involved a bus passenger who was injured when our client’s bus veered into a guardrail on the side of the road after a steering component failed. The court found Guy and Adam met the burden of proof in showing an emergency doctrine situation existed as a result of the sudden loss of steering with no notice, and where evidence in the form of more than 1,800 pages of maintenance records indicated the bus was well maintained. The plaintiff's expert report in opposition was deemed to be purely speculative. The sustainable verdict value at trial could have exceeded $3 million.
