Ashan Peiris has defended complex litigation in state and federal courts for more than 10 years. His complex tort liability practice focuses largely in the area of product defect, and includes professional malpractice and premises liability as well.

Prior to joining Wilson Elser in 2017, Ashan worked at a Pasadena-based business law firm. During that time, he served as a high school debate coach at Loyola High School in Los Angeles. He coached his students to regional and national successes, and many have gone on to become successful lawyers. Ashan brings this same level of mentorship and counsel to his colleagues and his clients.

Areas of Focus

Product Liability
Ashan has broad experience defending product liability matters involving products manufactured in the United States and abroad, such as automobile component parts, implantable medical devices, home appliances and cellular phones. Ashan has defended matters as minor as low-value subrogation cases in state court to major class-action matters in federal court.

Ashan advises client product designers and manufacturers on strategies to limit litigation in the future. He has counseled clients on alternative designs and product modifications to mitigate risks of personal injury and property damage. He also works with clients to strengthen or broaden the language in their product warnings to adequately warn consumers of the risks associated with their use.

Professional Malpractice
Ashan has defended accountants, insurance brokers and real estate brokers in malpractice cases. He provides direct defense for professionals on individual cases in courts, before regulatory bodies or in arbitrations and mediations.

Premises Liability
Ashan defends residential and commercial property owners as well as third-party vendors in premises liability actions. Mindful of the increasing economic pressures under which our clients conduct their businesses, he is committed to resolving claims quickly and efficiently.
