Erik J. Tomberg Of Counsel




Erik Tomberg is an experienced insurance coverage attorney, representing insurers in federal and state court litigation in disputes over a range of policies, including directors and officers (D&O), general liability and commercial property policies. Erik has been involved in coverage claims arising from, among other topics, government investigations, food contamination, public construction projects and the administration of public agencies. Erik counsels clients on policy claims and negotiations and takes a pragmatic and proactive approach to resolving disputes. 

Erik also regularly handles commercial litigation matters and has served as lead counsel in a successful trial in the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts, obtaining a judgment at trial that was affirmed by the First Circuit Court of Appeals. He has represented large financial institutions and corporations in a variety of commercial matters, including creditors’ rights and consumer financial services litigation. On behalf of a federal agency, Erik has managed a significant caseload of lawsuits filed in Cook County, Illinois, arising out of business loans collateralized by taxicab medallions in Chicago. 

In addition, Erik is an accomplished appellate attorney, and is a member of the firm’s Appellate practice team. He has handled successful appeals in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, First Circuit Court of Appeals, Illinois Appellate Court, Massachusetts Appeals Court and Rhode Island Supreme Court. 

Erik is a member of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Outside the office, he is sits on the Board of Directors Program Committee for Green Star Movement, a Chicago-based nonprofit that works with local students and communities to create murals in public spaces and revitalize urban neighborhoods.
