Ilysa Cholewa has extensive experience in state and federal courts and handles high-exposure cases, construction accident claims under New York Labor Law, and other high-exposure premises liability claims for various insureds and insurers. Ilysa has a growing coverage practice representing insurers in connection with a variety of specialty risk insurance policies for the London market including high-earner disability policies, professional athlete disability policies, and other specialty risk policies including contingency insurance and product recall. Ilysa also provides coverage analysis on professional liability policies. She has a unique perspective from her coverage practice and years of litigation experience, allowing her to provide advice from a coverage point of view and a third-party litigation point of view.

Areas of Focus

Construction Litigation
In the construction area, Ilysa has represented companies and municipal agencies in all phases of litigation, from the pre-claim stage through trial and appeal. She is involved in insurance wrap-up programs for various construction projects, as well as more traditional scenarios in which contractors are responsible for carrying their own insurance.

Insurance Coverage
Ilysa serves as coverage counsel to specialty risk insurers in connection with claims under policies for product recall and accidental product contamination, kidnap and ransom, event cancellation, high-limit disability for professional athletes and wealthy individuals, and professional liability for architects and engineers and construction managers, among others. In this regard, she has written coverage opinions and provided direct representation or monitoring services in ensuing litigation.
