Ian Stewart (Partner-Los Angeles, CA) and William Gay (Of Counsel-Los Angeles, CA | Seattle, WA) were quoted in the May 20, 2021, edition of The Legal Intelligencer in an article titled, “Cannabis Law Is Changing, and Big Law Is Taking Over the Space.” The article acknowledges the disappearing stigma surrounding cannabis practices as big law firms, and changing laws, embrace the $100 million industry. According to Bill, “As [the cannabis industry] becomes more legitimate … we’re seeing the application of traditional legal concepts to it, whether it’s in finance with securities disclosures or it’s in banking or insurance.” Ian looked to the future, offering his thoughts on how the industry will evolve with the removal of cannabis from Schedule 1 status: “I think that if anything, there’s going to be more work to do, because the industry is going to grow and it’s going to actually become more chaotic in the short term.”
