Biography | Eric R. Passeggio

Eric Passeggio has extensive experience handling a broad range of civil litigation matters, primarily representing clients who are involved with or are defending against high-exposure losses and complex claims that involve catastrophic personal injuries, fatalities and extensive property/ economic damage.

Eric brings a deliberate, thoughtful and collaborative team approach to cases that emphasizes understanding of the client’s broader interests as well as early and continuous assessments dispute strengths and weaknesses, which allows the defense team to plan, pursue and achieve a successful result based on the circumstances. As part of his practice, Eric keeps up to date with litigation trends and issues that may impact the outcome of claims; for example, as a member of DRI's Social Inflation Task Force.

Areas of Focus

Utilities/Energy
Eric has 20+ years of experience advising clients in the utility and energy industries – such as natural gas and electric distribution companies and propane retailers – in incident investigations; claims for wrongful death, personal injury and property damage; and associated claims for indemnity and insurance coverage. In addition to catastrophic accidents, his experience representing public utilities includes claims arising from third-party damage, dig-ins, line contact, vegetation management, outages, carbon monoxide and other incidents that arise during the course of utility operations. Eric regularly attends, participates in and presents at industry-related events.

Complex Tort & General Casualty
Eric has represented clients in a variety of casualty and general liability matters involving catastrophic injuries and/or significant property or economic losses, including tort claims, product liability, transportation and premises liability.

Product Liability / Fire & Explosion Litigation
Eric has extensive experience representing clients in matters that involve or require collaboration with engineers and scientists. Whether it involves a working knowledge of NFPA 921, materials science, human factors or other disciplines that may be needed to successfully represent a client, Eric relishes working with these experts to accurately assess the issues in a given case and developing an effective presentation of the issues.
