Jacob Mayer focuses his practice on defending long-term care facilities, health care providers, and related entities in civil litigation. He represents clients in nursing home negligence, wrongful death, and other matters arising from the care of residents. His experience spans pre-suit investigations, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation.

Before joining Wilson Elser, Jacob represented long-term care facilities and health care providers in matters involving Florida’s Nursing Home Residents’ Rights Act, professional negligence, pressure injuries, falls, staffing issues, elopement, and other allegations concerning resident care. In that role, he reviewed extensive medical and facility records, worked closely with medical experts, and helped develop case strategies addressing liability, causation, and damages.

Jacob began his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender in Florida’s Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, representing clients in criminal matters. He later practiced private criminal defense before transitioning to civil litigation.

Outside his practice, Jacob serves on The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Board of Governors as a representative for the Ninth Judicial Circuit. He is also co-chair of the Young Lawyers Division Professionalism/Engle Committee, which partners with The Florida Bar’s Henry Latimer Center for Professionalism to develop ethics and professionalism programming for Florida lawyers. In addition, Jacob serves on The Florida Bar’s Ninth Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee “A,” where he participates in the review of matters involving attorney conduct and professional responsibility.

Jacob represents nursing homes, assisted living facilities, health care providers, and related entities in negligence, wrongful death, and other claims involving resident care. His experience includes matters involving pressure injuries, falls, staffing, elopement, medication management, and alleged violations of Florida’s Nursing Home Residents’ Rights Act. He handles these matters from the pre-suit stage through discovery, depositions, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation.

Medical Malpractice & Health Care
Jacob represents health care providers and organizations in professional liability and other civil litigation arising from the care and treatment of patients and residents. He works closely with clients and medical experts to evaluate medical records, identify key medical and factual issues, and develop effective defense strategies.
