Jamie Durrett maintains a multijurisdictional practice representing established businesses and individuals in all aspects of civil litigation. Her practice focuses on the defense of claims related to general liability, product liability, professional liability, automobile liability, premises liability, personal injury, municipal liability, civil rights, transportation, negligent security, aviation, labor and employment, workers’ compensation, business, and real estate litigation. Jamie also represents insurer clients in coverage matters and disputes. She has defended major manufacturers of motorcycles, appliances, machines, pharmaceuticals, food, and beauty products in product liability and consumer cases.

In addition, Jamie represents businesses in all aspects of employment law, including tort and contract claims, defense of EEOC charges, whistleblower claims, employment discrimination and sexual harassment litigation, employee benefits litigation, wage-and-hour issues, labor matters, ADA claims, violation of noncompete agreements, and retaliation claims.

Jamie also has successfully defended clients against health care liability and professional negligence claims, including engineering/property loss litigation and coverage issues and professional negligence. Jamie has experience representing municipal clients in a wide range of cases including, but not limited to, governmental tort liability actions and employment discrimination cases.

Active in the Tennessee Bar Association, Jamie currently serves as the District 20 Representative to the TBA’s House of Delegates as well as on the Executive Committee for the Law Technology and Management Section. She is the pro bono board counsel for the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Areas of Focus

General Liability
Jamie has built a diverse civil litigation practice handling premises, auto, and negligent security for clients across a variety of industries. She provides clients with an elevated level of responsiveness and personal attention from the pre-litigation phase of potential claims to preparing a defense in litigated matters. Representative clients include security firms, commercial and residential property owners, management companies, restaurants, and manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors.

Professional Liability
Jamie is experienced in the defense of professional clients, including attorneys, medical professionals, accountants, architects, engineers, construction managers, design builders, surveyors, insurance brokers, and real estate professionals, including title agents. When formulating a defense, Jamie focuses on strategies to cost-effectively resolve pre-suit and litigated matters or those pending before administrative agencies and licensing boards.

Insurance Coverage
Jamie's experience includes both coverage litigation and drafting coverage opinions for insurers related to commercial general liability, E&O, and employment liability matters. Jamie has obtained favorable results through motion practice and negotiation of coverage disputes for her clients.

Product Liability
A substantial portion of Jamie’s practice involves the defense of product liability claims against domestic and foreign manufacturers and suppliers of industrial and residential machinery, appliances, cellular phones, food, and beauty products. She routinely advises clients and defends products in cases arising out of a product's design, manufacture, and/or marketing. Jamie is a member of the firm’s Asia Practice and regularly defends Asian manufacturers.

Commercial Litigation
In commercial litigation, Jamie defends breach of contract lawsuits as well as corporate transactional matters, and reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts and leases.

Aviation & Aerospace
Jamie has experience defending private and commercial air carriers and related aviation services.

Trucking, Transportation & Cargo
Jamie has extensive experience defending motor carriers and their drivers as well as other transportation and logistics operations.

Governmental Tort Liability
Jamie has handled cases for municipal clients in a wide range of matters, including actions brought under the Tennessee Governmental Tort Liability Act (GTLA). She has defended excessive force and 1983 claims against law enforcement agencies. In addition, Jamie has experience representing school boards and schools regarding premises liability, employment matters, and student-related disciplinary matters.

Labor, Employment & Civil Rights
Jamie has defended matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Tennessee Human Rights Commission, as well as claims related to employment discrimination, sexual harassment, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) violations, retaliation, and Fair Housing. Jamie also defends employers in workers’ compensation matters.
