Jana Slavina Farmer (Partner-White Plains, NY), assisted by Wisaal Jahangir, a Law Graduate with the firm, collaborated on “4 States' Enforcement Actions Illustrate Data Privacy Priorities,” which appeared in the May 29, 2025, posting of Law360’s Expert Analysis section. The authors examine recent actions by state privacy regulators in California, Connecticut, Oregon, and Texas, including crackdowns on unfair hurdles for consumers and cumbersome opt-out processes from sale of data; use of sensitive data, including precise geolocation and biometrics, without proper consent; inadequate privacy disclosures; and failure to honor consumer rights. They conclude with, “Notably, in April, regulators from California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, New Jersey, and Oregon joined a consortium of privacy regulators, sharing expertise and resources and coordinating enforcement against violations of their respective privacy laws. While commonalities in the laws make this collaboration possible, organizations should take note of the enforcement lessons from other states, as chances are that their own state regulators will address the issues similarly.”
