Lois Ottombrino is an accomplished trial lawyer who focuses her practice on the defense of complex medical malpractice claims. Lois heads one of the New York metropolitan area’s most active and respected practices in this field.

The core of Lois’ practice is the defense of hospitals, physicians, nurses and other health care professionals in litigating and trying high-exposure medical malpractice cases. She also has experience representing physicians in disciplinary proceedings. By tapping into the full resources of the firm, Lois is able to provide her health care clients with ready access to additional legal services in such areas as licensing, regulatory, transactions and government affairs.

A registered nurse and certified registered nurse anesthetist, Lois spent 13 years in the medical profession before embarking on her legal career, including serving as head nurse in an intensive care unit and practicing anesthesia. Clients find comfort in Lois’ medical background because she has experienced, and genuinely appreciates, the daily challenges and rewards that come with providing medical care.

Lois and her team also deliver added value to clients by regularly visiting their facilities and presenting educational and risk management programs, including mock trials. Lois currently is a member of the board of directors of the Association for Health Care Risk Management of New York, which presents lectures on risk management and provides updates to guidelines and standards.
