KUER 90.1 Quotes Tucker on Navajo Nation’s Fight for Election Rights
September 8, 2020
Jim Tucker (Of Counsel-Las Vegas) was quoted on KUER 90.1 listener-supported public radio in Southeast Utah on September 2, 2020, regarding “Census Workers on the Navajo Nation Race to Catch up with Less Than a Month to Finish Count.” The Navajo Nation joined a federal lawsuit this week to restore the October 31 deadline, according to Jim, vice chair of the Census National Advisory Committee, who also serves as a pro bono attorney for the Native American Rights Fund. Jim says that “shortening the non-response follow-up period could lead to an undercount in many tribal areas. Literally tens of millions of dollars will be lost, especially for larger reservations like the Navajo Nation.” Tucker says Navajo people also could lose political representation through federal, state and local redistricting processes. “It really matters.”
