High Court Ruling Creates 'Chilling Effect.'” The article centers on a recent ruling from the Georgia Supreme Court that says attorneys can be penalized for advising state-licensed cannabis companies. Marijuana oil currently is legal in the state for limited medical use, and Ian believes the ruling will not impact lawyers who provided counsel to cannabis companies when “there really was a threat of criminal prosecution.” But it could dissuade other business lawyers with practices tied to issues such as transportation, product development, product labeling and packaging from providing counsel to the companies.
