Gregg Tatarka (Partner-White Plains) and Chloe Angotta (Associate-Stamford) obtained summary judgment for a global electronics client in a product liability case where the plaintiffs claimed that a house fire, which garnered local media attention, was caused either by a cell phone charger manufactured by our client or by a cellular phone from another manufacturer. The plaintiffs were uninsured and made an initial demand of $1.8 million. Gregg and Chloe argued that the plaintiffs could not prove defect or causation under the Connecticut Products Liability Act or any independent theory of negligence or breach of warranty. The U.S. District Court, District of Connecticut adopted their arguments and granted the client’s motion for summary judgment.
