Hilana T. Said (Associate-New York, NY) authored “The Land of Opportunity Zones: Where Opportunity Goes to Die,” which appeared in the March 8, 2025, issue of American University Journal of Gender, Social Policy & the Law. Hilana critically examines the impact of Opportunity Zones (intended as an economic tool) and explores how in practice they often fail to deliver on their promises and can exacerbate inequality rather than foster real sustainable growth. She provides an overview of the new law and its ramifications, and makes recommendations for changes to the law.
