Lauren Stadler (Associate-McLean, VA) authored “Eye on Compliance: Service Animal Accommodations” in the February 28, 2023, Law360 Employment Authority posting.  According to Lauren’s article, the ADA proscribes categorical denials of requests for service or emotional support animals. An employer must work with the employee to evaluate and discuss the request and determine how best to accommodate the employee. Additionally, unless granting the accommodation would constitute an undue hardship or present a direct threat, the ADA generally mandates that an employee should be permitted to bring a service or emotional support animal to work.
