Sean Downing focuses his civil litigation practice on insurance law with an emphasis on high-stakes insurance coverage litigation and complex coverage analysis. He is a member of an experienced team of attorneys specializing in the defense of coverage disputes, risk analysis and mitigation, bad faith litigation, SIU assistance, appellate matters, and related insurance issues. Known for his strong research, writing, and problem-solving skills, Sean prides himself on providing comprehensive legal solutions tailored to clients’ diverse needs.

Before joining Wilson Elser, Sean worked at a regional litigation firm handling matters related to insurance coverage and analysis. He earned his law degree at the University of Oregon School of Law, where he graduated Order of the Coif and served as Editor in Chief of the Oregon Review of International Law. During law school, Sean was an extern in the Office of the General Counsel for the University of Oregon and a judicial clerk in the Oregon Circuit Court for Lane County. These roles provided Sean with valuable insight into the workings of a large organization with multiple stakeholders and diverse objectives, and deepened his understanding of the critical role that adherence to the rules of civil procedure and local courts plays in crafting successful litigation strategies.
