Felder Joins Carlos, Allin and Granata to Obtain Exoneration of Vessel Owners under LOLA Actions in Federal Court in Hawai'i, Arizona and Los Angeles

Otis Felder (Of Counsel-Los Angeles) worked with three other Admiralty & Marine attorneys to protect vessel owners' interests by initiating actions in federal court under the Limitation of Liability Act (LOLA).

  • In Hawai'i, Otis and Efrain Carlos (Partner-Miami) obtained a judgment exonerating a Maui catamaran owner in a case brought by a passenger who claimed she injured herself when she fell through an open and obvious hatch.
  • In Arizona, Otis and Taylor Allin (Associate-Phoenix) obtained exoneration in a suit following a houseboat fire while the vessel was refueling.
  • In Los Angeles, Otis and Valeria Granata (Associate-Los Angeles) obtained exoneration for a sailboat owner against claims by the charterer and her guest when he injured himself handling lines while departing Catalina.

In addition to getting cases into a federal forum, LOLA actions provide an effective means for expediated and cost-effective resolution.
