Daniel J. McMahon

Dan McMahon is chair of Wilson Elser. Overseeing Wilson Elser’s Executive Committee, he is responsible for setting the firm’s strategic vision, establishing and enforcing policy, and ensuring operational efficiency and effectiveness. A highly accomplished trial attorney and law firm executive, Dan built his practice and reputation in Illinois, and then nationally.

Dan’s primary focus in legal matters is on complex commercial litigation, professional liability defense, ERISA litigation and insurance coverage cases. He has many reported decisions in these and related areas. Dan has tried cases in U.S. District Courts across the country and in the Illinois Circuit Courts of Cook, Kane, McHenry and DuPage Counties. He has argued numerous appeals before state and federal appellate courts. He also has represented clients in arbitrations concerning commercial and insurance coverage disputes in various jurisdictions

Dan has prosecuted or defended numerous lawsuits and arbitrations in a wide range of practice areas. He has extensive experience in complex commercial litigation involving breach of contract, tortious interference, trade secrets, insurance bad faith, fraud, ERISA, RICO and other business-related disputes.

Dan has litigated matters relative to insurance coverage litigation involving a variety of policy types, including life, disability and health; director and officer liability; architect and engineer liability; miscellaneous professional liability; employment practices liability; and financial institution fidelity bond.

Dan’s practice also includes the defense of lawyers, accountants, and directors and officers in professional liability matters. In addition, he has defended clients in product liability, personal injury and construction negligence claims.
