Professional Development

Combining hands-on experience with sound formal training, Wilson Elser works to ensure that our attorneys continually expand and refine their professional skills, placing them at the leading edge of their chosen practice areas.

The Wilson Elser Institute (WEI) is emblematic of our commitment to professional development and engagement. A proprietary, in-house enterprise, WEI supports each attorney’s successful integration at the firm and professional growth at every career stage. WEI delivers progressive professional skills training that is rooted in one or more of the firm’s established core competencies (Legal Excellence & Practice; Professionalism, Good Citizenship & Leadership; and Client Service & Compliance) and promotes a unified commitment to a culture of learning and continuous improvement, exemplary client service and legal excellence.

Through WEI, all attorneys are offered formal Annual Core Training (ACT) on such topics as client service, time entry best practices, ethics and professional well-being.

WEI also features our premiere National Trial Advocacy Training (NTAT) & Mock Trial Program. Taught by some of the firm’s most experienced and accomplished litigators, NTAT programs cover the latest trends in trial and courtroom strategy and technology to prepare attorneys to be skilled and agile litigators positioned to handle all aspects of trial work. During the annual Mock Trial Program, participants receive live feedback through an immersive, experiential learning exercise. NTAT programs are held monthly and open to all firm attorneys and paralegals.

In addition to earning CLE credit for most WEI in-house training, attorneys at the firm hold a Privileged Membership with the Practising Law Institute (PLI). Through PLI, firm attorneys and paralegals have access to a robust library of live and on-demand legal training programs and other learning resources, with CLE provided in all 46 mandatory CLE (MCLE) states.

Our formal professional development programs are complemented by Wilson Elser’s “team” model. Working across disciplines and jurisdictions, our attorneys have access to the vast experience resident throughout the firm. This has the dual advantage of advancing our clients’ legal objectives while adding to our attorneys’ depth and breadth of knowledge and effectiveness.
